Amine antioxidants can be used in rubber applications to protect against heat and oxidative degradation. They can also be used in polyolefins, styrene copolymers, polyether, hot melt adhesives, lubricants, and polyamides.

Amine antioxidants can be further subdivided into several categories by common chemical types:

  • Secondary diaryl amines

  • Ketone-amine condensates

  • Aldehyde-amine condensates

  • Alkyl aryl secondary amines

TINTOLL Amine-based antioxidants have been reported to open the octatomic rings of S8 through direct nucleophilic attack. This accelerates the vulcanization of rubber and generates more active sulfonating agents for rubber curing.

Key Aspects of Amines Antioxidants

Key Aspects of Amines Antioxidants
  • Oxidation Inhibition: Amines antioxidants are highly effective at preventing oxidation, a chemical reaction that can lead to the deterioration of materials. They work by interrupting the oxidation chain reaction, which can cause structural changes, color fading, and a decrease in performance.

  • Types of Amines: Amines antioxidants come in several forms, including primary, secondary, and tertiary amines. Each type offers different levels of protection and is chosen based on the specific needs of the material being protected.

  • Synergistic Effects: Amines antioxidants are often used in combination with other types of antioxidant additives for plastics, such as hindered phenols or phosphites. This combination can provide a synergistic effect, enhancing the overall protection against oxidation.

  • Polymers and Plastics: Amines antioxidants are commonly used in the plastics and polymer industry. They are added to materials like polyethylene, polypropylene, and polyurethane to prevent the adverse effects of exposure to oxygen and heat, extending the life of these materials.
